It all began with an idea to reach out to underserved communities within the California Community College system. In an ongoing effort to diversify the programming to reflect the population of faculty, staff and students, CCCSAT is launching the Native American Educational Channel, which will begin with four hours of Native American-focused programming each week.
Starting Tuesday, February 04, 2003, the Native American Educational Channel will broadcast every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. on CCCSAT's Affiliate's Contribution Network (ACN), channel 80. Native American producers will provide current programming, with educational and informative segments focusing on subjects such as Indian Elders and young native scholars, exercise shows and music. The first program to air will include a reading from Native American poet and writer Gordon Johnson.
CCCSAT's expansion of the Native American Educational Channel included connecting the Barona and San Pasqual reservations with downlink equipment, installed as part of the Hewlett Packard Tribal Digital Village project. The downlink installations at both reservations and Warner Springs High School will be completed by the end of this week.
CCCSAT's mission is to provide the highest quality digital communications delivery system for distance education and professional development to all 108 California community colleges. CCCSAT supports the academic mission of the California Community Colleges and the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, which funds the CCCSAT grant. |
